The
goal of the Moonlight Club is to encourage the youth loafing
around in the streets individually or in crowds to spend their
weekend nights, on Friday and/or on Saturday (from 8 p.m. to 12
p.m.) doing sports, namely table tennis, in a civilized
environment where they are treated in a kind and friendly way.
It is important that youngsters are dealt with by adults who
participate in the programme on a voluntary basis, who have the
necessary amount of empathy and tolerance, and who are willing
to devote a part of their free time to being with these young
people, to shelter them from the harmful influences of street
life. From the various kinds of sports we prefer table tennis
because it requires less technical preparation, and it also
doesn’t involve any financial burden for the participants.
If the necessary financial and other conditions are given, other
sports can be considered as well, like basketball, table
football (foosball), darts, chess, dominoes, etc., except for
indoor football, because it generates aggression. The Moonlight
Programme takes place in the Moonlight Club, the operation of
which has seven
fundamental requirements. These are the following:
1.
Regular
The club should be open throughout the whole year, at fixed
times, preferable on Friday and/or Saturday.
2.
Open at night
The club should be open between 8 p.m. and 12 p.m., but it
can start earlier and end later too.
3.
Sports
The activities should be related to sports, with the
main focus on table-tennis.
4.
Free of charge
All participants (members) should be able to
take part in the activities free of charge.
5.
Competition + awarding
A competition should be organized on every
occasion, the participation in which is
recommended, but not compulsory. Small prizes
should be drawn among the competitors
(chocolates, sweets etc.). Once or twice a year
a larger home championship should be
organized (season starting, season ending),
with the awarding of diplomas, medals, and the drawing of
a more considerable prize.
6.
Meals
The participants can eat and drink free of charge at the club
(bread and butter, tea, soft drinks, etc.)
7.
A smoking, alcohol and drug free place
The activities should be organized at a location which is free
of any harmful habits or addictions.
Moonlight
Clubs can be operated in schools, community centers, sport
clubs, church facilities, etc. The Youth Night Sport Division
strives to help open as many clubs as possible, so that those
can form a network and youth night sport can become a movement.
