THE
FIRST OFFICIAL HOME CHAMPIONSHIP IN MOONLIGHT
CLUB 1
15
June, 2006
On
19 May, 2006 the first official home championship of the Club
was held in the Technical Secondary School in the framework of
the student days organized in the school with the title Something more. The preparations had been under way for quite a
while before the event, and the excitement among the kids grew,
when on the day of the championship 38 youngsters came to fight
throughout the competition with remarkable effort and
enthusiasm. It was not a simple
championship: this was the first real test of the group of
youngsters which had been welded together into a community in
the past two months. This
was a festival for all of us: for the youth and for everyone
else who contributed in any way to making this day come true.
The youngsters were happy about wearing the Moonlight
Club T-shirts, about the many guests who were present, the
competitions, the prizes hoped for and the tombola, as well.
-
This was the most beautiful day of my life! – said one of the
children. The words came from the bottom of his heart, although
he didn’t even win a serious prize.
The guests
and the competitors were greeted by the Head Teacher of the
school, Erzsébet Ivanović. She expressed her happiness about
the fact that the school successfully took on and supported
another uncommon idea, that one of youth night sport. She
welcomed the representatives of the local government of
Subotica, Ildikó
Lovas and Andrija Romić, the guests from Kragujevac, the
delegates from the sister clubs in the Red Cross of Subotica and
in Bająa lead by Andrea
Vaci and Béla Námesztovszki,
the representatives of the local government of Szentendre,
Councillor of Sport Affairs (and the President of MÉSE) Péter
Jakab, and dr Ferenc Kovács, who “transported” this noble
idea to Subotica, Csilla Német from the Association of
Professional Organizations in Subotica, and the representatives
of the press.
On the
occasion of the championship an exhibition of sports caricatures
by caricaturist Attila Szalai was opened in the club-room in the
basement of the school. The special exhibition was opened by
writer and Councillor of Cultural Affairs of Subotica, Ildikó
Lovas. In her opening speech she talked about sports, the youth,
tolerance, the role of literature and arts and the special kind
of humanism which is present in every corner of the Moonlight
Club. She congratulated to Attila Szalai on the exhibition and
the wonderful sports caricatures that were exhibited. The first
home
championship of the Moonlight Club 1 was officially opened by the Councillor of Youth
and Sports Affairs of the local government of Subotica, Andrija
Romić, who is at the same time the President of the
Professional Council of the Youth Night Sport Division. The
course of the championship was supervised by the President of
the Club, Radmila Kią, and trainer Josip ©ebećen. The umpires
of the competition were international umpire Milan Kresović,
and umpire of the Repiblic Milan Obradović.
The
President of the Hungarian Association of Midnight Championships
Péter Jakab read the greeting letter of the father of the night
sport movement, Dr Sándor Faragó (see in our Letter Box), who
could not be present because of an injury.
