FIRST EXPERIENCES
IN THE MOONLIGHT CLUB 1
30
October, 2005
The work of the Club
started in modest circumstances. From the beginning the team of
adults
worked with great optimism and
determination to create in time a safe place with good atmosphere
for young people who show interest in the Club and drop by on
Friday nights – which shows well on the photo above. Radmila Kiš,
the President of Moonlight Club 1, Dezső Kiss, the Programme
Coordinator and Manager, Szabolcs Turu, the teacher on duty
assigned by the Technical Secondary School of Subotica, Josip Šebešćen,
table tennis trainer, and András Pletikoszity, an enlisted
soldier performing public service, who was assigned by Red Cross
for duty, waited for the kids dropping by every Friday night from
week to week. The members of the adult team remained the same
every week, except for the teacher and soldier on duty.
In the beginning the kids
were only “experimenting”
with this special form of night table tennis. Many of them were
asking about admission, and were surprised to hear that everything
is free of charge: table tennis, snacks and drinks too. In the
first month the attendance was quite low and varying (10-20 kids a
night), and a lot of kids just “looked in” without staying.
Nevertheless, there were already some kids who showed signs of
persistence and commitment to the Club.
The bread and butter we
bought ourselves, while Radmila Kiš, Lujza Fekete and András
Szokol
brought jam, honey and apples from home. The soft drinks were
donated by the senior doctor of the Blood Transfusion Department
of the Subotica Hospital, dr. Bogdanka Knežević, and the Red
Cross of Subotica. Once, when all the refreshments were consumed,
one of the girls, Snežana, distributed the apples she brought
from home among her club mates. So far there are only few of us in
the Club, but we are having a good time. The kids are playing huge
matches with each other, and they are having a lot of fun!
